Im Jahr 2025 ist die sächsische Industriestadt Chemnitz Kulturhauptstadt Europas. Die 38 Partnerkommunen aus Mittelsachsen, dem Erzgebirge und dem Zwickauer Land bilden die Kulturhauptstadtregion. Ein reiches gemeinsames Kultur- und Industrie-Erbe verbindet Chemnitz und die umliegende Region. Der Titel ist die Einladung zu einer vielfältigen Entdeckungsreise in den Osten Deutschlands mitten in Europa. „C the Unseen“ – das Motto für Chemnitz 2025 ist Aufforderung und Programm. Es gilt, bislang Ungesehenes und Unentdecktes sichtbar zu machen. Mit dem Titel „Kulturhauptstadt Europas“ richtet sich ein Scheinwerfer auf Menschen, Orte und Aktivitäten, die bislang nicht im Zentrum der touristischen Aufmerksamkeit stehen. Ulf Kallscheidt, Leiter der Stabsstelle und Programmkoordinator, gibt in einem Impulsvortrag Einblicke in das Programm und den wichtigen Akzente, welche Chemnitz mit „C the Unseen“ setzt. Anschließend folgt eine Diskussionsrunde mit Kulturreferent Wolfgang Dersch und Gästen – was bleibt und was kann noch werden?

In 2025, the Saxon industrial city of Chemnitz will be the European Capital of Culture. The 38 partner municipalities from Central Saxony, the Ore Mountains and the Zwickau region make up the Capital of Culture region. A rich shared cultural and industrial heritage links Chemnitz and the surrounding region. The title is an invitation to embark on a multifaceted journey of discovery to the east of Germany in the heart of Europe. “C the Unseen” – the motto for Chemnitz 2025 is both an invitation and a program. The aim is to make the previously unseen and undiscovered visible. The title “European Capital of Culture” shines a spotlight on people, places and activities that have not yet been the focus of tourist attention. Ulf Kallscheidt, head of the staff unit and program coordinator, will give an insight into the program and the important accents that Chemnitz is setting with “C the Unseen” in a keynote speech. This will be followed by a discussion with cultural affairs officer Wolfgang Dersch and guests – what remains and what can still be done?
