Katzenmusik: Macht und Widerstand staged reading in 3 acts PänK Verlag UG generally sees itself as a politically and socially critical publisher. This year, however, it has focussed in particular on political structures. Where is power, who uses it, where does resistance arise? In keeping with the city of Regensburg’s cultural theme for the year – Katzenjammer – we are devoting a staged reading to the subject of „cat music“. Cat music is much more than the discordant music of musical amateurs. In various historical periods, it functioned as an expression of resistance by the oppressed – breaking with the prevailing rules, with musical and political guidelines. As different as the environments and circumstances are, this characteristic unites the „cat music“ at the time of the March Revolution in Vienna, the cacophony of an old Bavarian „Haberfeldtreiben“ and the first beginnings of punk in East Berlin. (To avoid misunderstandings: punk naturally developed into an artistically sophisticated musical genre in the West and subsequently in East Germany! By „cat music“ we mean the first angry musical expressions of discontent as part of the resistance culture of the early 1980s, which would lead to social upheaval in the former GDR. The typical grafittis of this time are also shown in the stage design). On the second evening, we are therefore organising a staged reading in three acts: Act 1: takes place in Vienna On the second evening we are therefore organising a staged reading in three acts: Act 1: set in Vienna during the March Revolution of 1848 Act 2: Old Bavaria.
