In den letzten Monaten hat das Schöner Sterben Kollektiv 10.000 Dinge gesammelt. Warum? 10.000 Dinge werden pro Person im Durchschnitt in Deutschland vererbt. Es ist schwer sich vorzustellen, wie viel das ist und darum will das Kollektiv 10.000 Dinge ins M26 bringen und diese damit spürbar und erlebbar machen. Sie haben sich auf die Suche nach unserer Beziehung zu den Dingen gemacht, warum wir sie brauchen, weshalb es uns so schwerfällt uns von ihnen zu trennen und was all diese Dinge mit uns machen. Es ist kein Appell nur zum Ausmisten – sondern zur Auseinandersetzung. Die Ausstellung versteht sich nicht als Plädoyer für Minimalismus, sondern als Einladung zur Selbstreflexion: Wie bewusst gehen wir mit dem um, was wir besitzen? Wie viel Lebenszeit investieren wir in unsere Dinge – beim Kaufen, Aufbewahren, Sortieren, Entsorgen? Wer kümmert sich um meine Dinge, wenn ich nicht mehr bin? Vielleicht ein Aufruf zum Innehalten, bevor man Dinge zum eh schon Vorhandenen hinzufügt.

Over the past few months, the Schöner Sterben collective has collected 10,000 items. Why? On average, 10,000 items are inherited per person in Germany. It is difficult to imagine how much that is, which is why the collective wants to bring 10,000 items to M26 and make them visible and perceptible. They have set out to explore our relationship with things, why we need them, why we find it so difficult to part with them, and what all these things do to us. It is not just a call to declutter—it is a call to engage with the issue. The exhibition is not intended as a plea for minimalism, but as an invitation to self-reflection: How consciously do we deal with what we own? How much of our lives do we invest in our things—in buying, storing, sorting, and disposing of them? Who will take care of my things when I am no longer here? Perhaps it is a call to pause before adding things to what we already have.
