Lecture „Jewish Topography in the Soviet Context: Friedrich Gorenstein’s Play ,Berdichev'“

Vielberth-Gebäude, VG 2.44, Universität Regensburg Vielberth-Gebäude, VG 2.44, Universität Regensburg, Regensburg

Dr. Alena Pantiukhina (TU Dresden) will explore the border topography in Friedrich Gorenstein’s play Berdichev, revealing tensions between Jewish identity, Soviet ideology, and the remnants of a vanished Jewish culture. Berdichev serves as a microcosm of Soviet Jewry, contrasting sharply with Moscow’s imperial Soviet core. Through images of communal apartments, boulevards, slums, and Holocaust traces, Gorenstein portrays a landscape marked by loss and resilience. Part of the Slavic Colloquium at the University of Regensburg, the lecture will be held in English.
